SOCIAL EXCLUSION UNIT EXCLUDING RURAL POOR

There has been a claim that the Government’s Social Exclusion Unit is ignoring the plight of poor people in rural areas and concentrating resources on inner city poverty.
The report states that despite the popular image of rural wealth, one in four households live in or on the margins of poverty with many households consisting of low paid manual workers or elderly people living alone. 

PFI AND LOCAL GOVERNMENT - REVISED GUIDANCE LAUNCHED

The Government has issued new guidance on working with the private sector to generate new investment in public infrastructure.Local Government Minister Hilary Armstrong has published updated guidance on local authority PFI.
She said: “Local Government PFI has come a long way. At the time of the General Election, only one local government PFI project had been given the green light.
