CASH WITH STRINGS FOR HOSPITALS

Headlines, PublicNet: 18 March, 1999

Health Secretary Frank Dobson announced that 80 million pounds is to be invested in accident and emergency units. Improvements to the units will include admission and observation wards, special areas for children, easier access to X-ray, pathology and pharmacy services, improved layout and furnishing and video surveillance and alarm systems.
The investment is part of a modernisation package which will involve a re-think of the way in which the needs of patients who now attend units are met.

LEARNING NETWORK JOINS UP PARTNERS

Headlines, PublicNet: 18 March, 1999

A learning network has been launched to support the Better Government for Older People Programme. It will allow local authorities, voluntary organisations, the Programme team and individuals to keep in touch with events and to share best practice.
The aim of the Programme, launched in June 1998, is to improve public services for older people by better meeting their needs, listening to their views, and encouraging and valuing their contribution, so they can fully participate in their communities.
