NEW TECHNOLOGY FOR HOME OFFICE

Modernisation at the Home Office took a step forward with the announcement that a consortium had been chosen to provide new information and communications technology systems. It is planned to sign a contract in the summer based on the Public Finance Initiative.
The project, which is one of the largest undertaken by the Government, will provide improved services to Ministers, Parliament and the public and allow new methods of working which will result in reduced costs.

HEALTH AND SOCIAL SERVICES TURF WARS TO END

Health Secretary Frank Dobson has responded to the Health Select Committee criticism of weaknesses in the relationship between health and social services. He declared an end to turf wars and pledged improved joint working.
Local Authorities and NHS bodies started work on Health Improvement Programmes this month and the Programmes will play a major part in fostering joint working among all agencies including social services.
