EMPLOYMENT SERVICE GETS THE OUTSIDE VIEW

Headlines, PublicNet: 13 July, 1999

The Employment Service, which runs 1000 job centres, wants an outside view before setting its aims, objectives and targets for 2000. It is the first central government organisation to do so this year. In most cases this is recognised as an entirely internal process.
A letter inviting contributions to the review has been issued to some1000 organisations. The letter is also on the Department for Education and Employment and Employment Service websites. The consultation period ends on 17 September.

JOINED UP GOVERNMENT BECOMES FASHIONABLE

Headlines, PublicNet: 13 July, 1999

The fashion industry is being used a test bed to pilot a scheme for joined-up government on an industry wide front. A team of eight Government Departments and agencies is led by Customs and Excise. Their remit is to see how Government can improve the way it works with London’s fashion business. They will work together to deliver advice and help to the industry in a more co-ordinated and seamless way.
