The Home Office, Department of Environment Transport and the Regions and the Department for Education and Employment. are jointly funding schemes to support disaffected young people The Youth Inclusion Programme will create dynamic local based programmes in at least 70 high crime areas. Each scheme will work with 40 to 50 young people, aged 13 to 16, and aim to divert them away from crime in a way which will benefit them and the communities in which they live.Local residents will be involved in managing, designing and delivering the schemes in partnership with Youth Offending Teams. The schemes could include family link centres based in primary schools, skill centres aimed at providing excluded young people with qualifications, mentoring schemes to provide help, advice and support and volunteering schemes to encourage young people to get involved in voluntary activity within their communities. There will also be sports facilities and support services for parents.
