The introduction of IT into schools and some homes is opening up new social exclusions, according to fresh research.Uneven patterns of access to, and use of, computer equipment in schools and at home means that some children have more opportunities to develop IT skills than others, according to research sponsored by the Economic and Social Research Council.
A group of councils in the North East have begun piloting a community legal service - soon to be the norm across the country.Northumberland, Darlington and Hartlepool are all ‘associate pioneers’ - local authorities who are piloting partnership agreements with the Legal Aid Board, and local solicitors.
The scheme has been highlighted by The Lord Chancellor’s Department and further authorities have been urged to join in.
Central IT Unit, Cabinet OfficeThe Central IT Unit has published draft guidelines setting out best practice for design, use and management of call centres. They deal with general management and personnel issues as well as technical matters. The guidelines have been endorsed by the Information Age Government Champions. They have been prepared for the benefit of public sector business managers, including board members and strategy and policy developers.
