LIVING IN BRITAIN - MEANS SMOKING AND DRINKING TOO MUCH

New statistics from the 1998 General Household Survey will inform public and health service delivery with the latest information about how people in Britain live.Yvette Cooper, Minister for Public Health, says the results from the survey will be used to judge the success of initiatives to cut adult smoking.
The figures show that 28 per cent of men and 26 per cent of women still smoke, though this is a slight reduction on the previous survey two years earlier.

Every Government agency, department and local authority has been asked to examine which services might in the future be delivered through digital television.The Cabinet Office has issued the guideline, for consultation, in the hope of encouraging the public sector to be ahead of the game with the latest technology.
Digital TV has the potential to eclipse the attention and effort currently being directed at the Internet.
