BLUNKETT PROMISES TO CUT RED TAPE

The Education Secretary has responded to the criticisms about red tape faced by schools, as made by the Local Government Association (see yesterday’s Publicnet: June 1, 2000).In announcing a major re-think of the way the Standards Fund is administered, he has also threatened to clearly separate local education authority and schools budgets.

MENTAL HEALTH CZAR AIMS FOR JOINED UP SERVICE

The new mental health ‘czar’ has given his first indications of priorities. They will be to pull together a fractured service that sees too many patients and their families suffer as a result of discontinuity of care.Other urgent priorities outlined by the National Director of Mental Health, Professor Louis Appleby, concentrate on improving the quality of care to the patient.
