DELIVERING HR WITH ATTITUDE: LEADING PEOPLE – LEADING PROGRESS

The aim of the resource pack is to help organisations promote and implement the use of an HR Leadership Qualities Framework that describes those behaviours which enhance NHS HR capacity and capability to improve the patient experience. The resource pack will provide a ‘thread’ through the myriad of leadership and competence based initiatives which address not only HR capacity but also the HR
capacity of line managers. It achieves this through an emphasis on the practical application of the framework and the competencies described within it highlighting their use in a range of HR and development processes. The pack includes: the case for an HR leadership qualities framework and the framework, recruitment, selection, learning and development, feedback, local HR initiatives
and accounting for people.

BOOST FOR SCRUTINY OF HEALTH SERVICES

Nine councils with innovative action learning projects in the field of health scrutiny will receive 20,000 pounds to further their work. The awards are being made by the Centre for Public Scrutiny as part of their three-year Health Scrutiny Support Programme, designed to increase capacity as non-executive
council members get to grips with their new powers to scrutinise health services.

POLICE SPENDING MORE TIME ON THE BEAT

Technology is helping to keep officers out of the police station. The new radio network, Airwave, is replacing a patchwork of bespoke outdated analogue radios with a state-of-the-art sophisticated communication system. The 2.9bn pounds government contract is due for completion in Spring 2005.
