Public confusion over the level of bureaucracy in the National Health Service has been highlighted in an ICM poll, commissioned jointly by UNISON and the NHS Confederation. It shows people believe only half of staff are directly involved in patient care when the real figure is 84 per cent.

DOCTORS FEAR PENSION AGE CHANGE WILL HIT NHS RECRUITMENT

Half of doctors believe increasing the age at which they become entitled to a pension from 60 to 65 will cause recruitment problems for the National Health Service. The British Medical Association invited doctors to take part in an online survey on the issue and almost 5,000 responded.
