STUDY LOOKS AT LINKS BETWEEN HR AND HEALTH CARE

New research is to study links between the way National Health Service staff are managed and the quality of care given to patients. The quarter of a million pound project, “Improving Health Through HRM” is an initiative commissioned jointly by the Department of Health, the Association of Healthcare Human Resources Management and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development.The objective of the research is to increase understanding of how human resources practices influence the quality of healthcare. It will undertake new case studies in the health service as well as reviewing existing research findings.

REPORT CALLS FOR COMMISSIONING CASH TO GO DIRECT TO FAMILIES OF DISABLED CHILDREN

Britain’s 49,000 children with severe disabilities are receiving inadequate care from social services departments it is claimed in a report published today. It shows that almost half of parents with disabled children get no support at all from outside the family.The report “People Not Budgets: valuing disabled children”, has been produced for the Centre for Policy Studies by Florence Heath and Richard Smith who say the crisis in care will get worse as disabled children live longer as a result of medical advances.
