It presents a case study describing how Trafford MBC invested in a new integrated voice, data and video communications network from Alcatel, and describes the efficiencies and savings that have been achieved as a result.The new integrated network spans 250 buildings including schools, hospitals, libraries, and independent organisations and supports over 4,700 staff.

CITY COUNCIL TAKES RACE EQUALITY AGENDA TO COMMUNITIES

An initiative begins in Manchester this week to give people from minority communities a chance to give their views on the city council’s Agenda 2010 policy, which looks at how mainstream services are working to meet the needs of all Manchester residents. This week will see the first of a series of road shows.Agenda 2010 is designed to take a partnership approach to themes named as important by people from black minority ethnic communities. The four main areas they have identified are crime, health, education and employment.The first event will take place on Thursday evening in the Cheetham Hill area of the city, with further road shows scheduled next month and in March in the Longsight and Moss Side areas. These will lead up to an Agenda 2010 and Manchester Partnership conference, which will take place later in March.

VOLUNTARY GROUPS OPPOSE FEES FOR INFORMATION REQUESTS

Voluntary sector organisations have set out their opposition to the idea of fees being charged for dealing with requests under the Freedom of Information Act, which is being considered in Whitehall. The National Council for Voluntary Organisations says the Act is having a positive impact on lobbying and campaigning by its members.To assess the impact of the Act, which was fully implemented a year ago, the NCVO and Ashridge Business School conducted a survey of directors and chief executives of voluntary and community organisations. The survey found that while a number of them had made use of the Act more needed to be done to raise awareness of it and its potential.
