MORE FLEXIBILITY FOR EYE PRESCRIPTIONS

The Department of Health has published proposals for consultation, which if agreed, would enable optometrists to prescribe medicines for certain eye conditions. Optometrists can already supply some medicines but these proposals will enable them to develop their services so that they can make the most of their specialist skills and also give patients more choice about where and from whom they get their treatment.

COMMITTEE SUPPORTS ROAD CHARGING BUT COUNCILS ARE LUKEWARM

The House of Commons Environmental Audit Committee has come out in strong support for the introduction of a national road user charging scheme which it believes is vital in reducing carbon emissions as well as congestion. The response from councils invited to bid for funding from the Transport Innovation Fund to support road charging and other measures was disappointing.
