One fifth of UK workers have been bullied over the last 2 years according to a report from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Public sector workers are more likely to experience bullying than their private sector counterparts, 22% compared with 17%.The groups most likely to become victims of bullying and harassment are black and Asian employees, women and disabled individuals. Nearly one third of Asian employees, or those from other ethnic groups, report having experienced some form of bullying or harassment. This compares with 18% of white employees. Employees with disabilities are at least twice as likely to report having experienced one or more forms of bullying and harassment, 37%, compared with non-disabled employees, 18%.
COUNCILS ‘LEADING WAY ON E-GOVERNMENT’ AS AWARDS APPROACH
Almost ninety projects have been short listed for this year’s e-Government National Awards from record 345 nominations received from senior professionals. The organisers say the finalists demonstrate a great diversity and spread of excellence in e-Government and public sector IT.The 89 short listed entries have been drawn from local authorities, central government departments, non-departmental public bodies and voluntary organisations. They include Birmingham City Council, the Department for Education and Skills, the Highways Agency, the Environment Agency, the Welsh Assembly, the NHS and the homeless charity Shelter.

EMPLOYERS’ REPORT CALLS FOR HELP TO MEET EQUAL PAY BILLS
Local authorities want permission to capitalise their assets to meet the costs of implementing equal pay. The recommendation has been made by the Local Government Employers in a report looking at the problems councils are facing in meeting the massive costs of ensuring pay for women staff is brought into line with that for men.
