COUNCIL BREAKS NEW GROUND TO SUPPORT VICTIMS OF ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOR

 

A big city council has launched a pioneering scheme to provide support and services to victims and witnesses of anti-social behaviour. Birmingham City Council’s Anti-Social Behaviour Unit is operating the project in partnership with Victim Support West Midlands for an initial 15 months with financial support from the Home Office.

BUS SERVICE SHAKE UP WELCOMED AS VITAL TO REGENERATION

 

Government proposals amounting to the most fundamental changes in the operation of bus services for 20 years have been greeted by local government as a victory for common sense and welcomed as vital to the regeneration of towns and cities. The plans would give councils more say in areas like timetabling and the cost of journeys as well allowing them to tailor services to meet local needs. The measures are contained in “Putting Passengers First”, which was unveiled by the Transport Secretary, Douglas Alexander, and which outlines a raft of proposals designed to increase the number of bus passengers in the longer term.

This report from the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development sets out findings from a survey of the public and private sectors. The survey explores trends in employee attitudes to work and relationships with managers and colleagues. It reveals that relationships between employers and employees in many British workplaces resemble a marriage under stress, characterised by poor communications and low levels of trust. This leads to underperformance, low productivity and high levels of staff turnover.Not talking is a feature of stressed marriages and 30% of respondents say they rarely or never get feedback on their performance. While 42% of employees do not feel they are kept well informed about what is going on in their organisation. Just 37% of employees are satisfied with the opportunities they have to feed their views and opinions upwards.
