TRADING STANDARDS OFFICERS BACK CHANGE TO LEGAL AGE FOR BUYING TOBACCO

 

Local authority Trading Standards Officers have welcomed the move to increase the legal age for buying tobacco from 16 to 18. They believe it will reduce confusion among retailers as well as having public health benefits. The change will not come into force until October but a campaign to raise awareness of it will begin shortly.

SURVEY HIGHLIGHTS DIFFICULTIES FACED BY YOUNG COUNCILLORS

 

More than three-quarters of young councillors find it difficult to hold down a full-time job at the same time as performing their duties as elected members of local authorities, according to a survey by the New Local Government network, which also shows strong support among those taking part for better pay and conditions.
