Local authority leaders have welcomed the news that people living on council housing estates are to be able to apply for anti-social behaviour orders to tackle problems in their own communities. The new powers were announced alongside the investment of 485 million pounds to update run-down homes.

EFFICIENCY SAVINGS LIMIT COUNCIL TAX RISES

A survey by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy reveals that nearly 4 in 10 councils believe efficiency savings have enabled them to limit increases in council tax bills. The findings also show that the vast majority of councils feel that the savings realised have not had a detrimental effect on local services.The research also reveals that only a quarter of councils are in favour of local government reorganisation for their authority.
