NEW SCHEME TO TIE MAYORS TO COMMUNITY PAYBACK

 

Mayors across the country are to get the chance to nominate a project in
their areas which would benefit from being worked on by offenders who have
committed crimes in that area. The Home Secretary, John Reid, has announced
that communities throughout England and Wales will have the opportunity to
get something back from offenders this year as part of a drive for local
councils to work more closely with the Probation Service.

FUTURES FORUM LAUNCHES BIG STUDY OF DRUG AND ALCOHOL USE

 

Scotland’s Futures Forum is to undertake a year-long study of alcohol and
drug use. It will be launched today with a major conference at Holyrood
that will set the stage for the investigations that the Forum hopes will
establish a fresh political perspective on the country’s approach to
alcohol and drugs.

This report from the Society of IT Management explores the experience of dealing with local government by phone from a citizen’s perspective. The research used ‘mystery shopping’ to sample the experience of making
different enquires to councils by phone. The degree of integration between
the telephone and the website channels was also explored.
