STUDY SAYS PRISONERS WITH LEARNING DISABILITIES MISS OUT ON REHABILITATION

 

New research published today says that thousands of people in prison who have learning disabilities face being bullied and missing out on rehabilitation courses because they are not being identified and because prison staff are not being given the training or resources to deal with them.

COUNCILS ‘TAKING OWNERSHIP OF IMPROVEMENT AGENDA’

 

Local authorities are taking ownership of the improvement agenda according to the Local Government Association, which is urging councils to prove that reducing red tape was the right decision to allow them to focus on what was important to local people. The LGA and the Improvement and Development Agency have launched a joint publication, “Developing the new performance framework for localities”.

This report from the Society of IT Management is based on research from recent disasters that have hit local authorities, affecting their ICT service. It raises serious concerns and questions whether councils understand the expectations of the Civil Contingencies Act and are sufficiently prepared to cope with threats to business continuity.The cases of discontinuity examined in the report include an arson attack, the aftermath of storm damage, an explosion at an oil terminal, major flooding, a building collapse and a burst water main in a town hall.
