This evaluation report from Communities and Local Government assess the early impact of local area agreements. It is based on research in pilot local authorities. The main benefits attributed to LAAs are better ways of joint working across agencies with improvements in local partnership commitment and energy, acceleration of integration of services particularly children’s trusts, social and health care as well as improved co-operation between councils and police. Although there is no evidence of efficiency savings there is a recognition that joined up working was leading not only to improved outcomes and performance, but the beginnings of savings through the merging and simplification of financial administration of funding streams.
