MANCHESTER SCHOOL MARKS MILESTONE FOR HIGHER LEVEL ASSISTANTS

 

England’s 15,000th Higher Level Teaching Assistant has started work this week. Nazish Mohammed has joined the staff at Heald Place School in Manchester to reach the milestone. The assistants are members of support staff in schools whose skills have been developed to meet a level set in national professional standards by the Training and Development Agency for Schools – formerly the Teacher Training Agency.

FIRE SERVICE STAFF PRAISED FOR DROP IN DEATHS

 

New figures show the number of deaths in fires in England has halved since 1981 and the number of fires is at its lowest level since 1988. Government ministers have praised initiatives run by front line fire and rescue staff for bringing about the reduction. The statistics record 140,300 fires compared to to the 2001 high of 188,400.
