MORE COUNCILS MEET PLANNING TARGETS

 

More local authorities have met national targets for handling planning applications speedily and efficiently. Fifty-six local planning authorities will now be removed from the Government’s poor performers list and that means three-quarters of all councils are now meeting all three national targets for dealing with applications on time, compared to just 6 per cent five years ago.

REPORT SETS OUT 100 NEW POLICIES FOR CHILDREN’S SERVICES

 

Local authorities that provide children’s social care services are being sent a report setting out more than a hundred new policies based on what children have said is important to them. The report has been compiled by Dr Roger Morgan, the Children’s Rights Director for England and it is also going to Government officials looking at how children should be looked after in the future, key members of Parliament, the Commission for Social Care Inspection, Ofsted, and each of the of the UK Children’s Commissioners.

PERFORMANCE MANAGEMENT AND APPRAISAL TOOLKIT

The Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development has developed a Performance Management and Appraisal toolkit to support appraisal training. Performance appraisals can become uncomfortable and time consuming and often fail to live up to expectations. The toolkit describes tried and tested ideas to help turn appraisal into a vital management tool. There is a warning that viewing the interview as an event rather than using regular discussions as part of a performance development process can undermine performance management.
