WELSH APPROACH TO PUBLIC ENGAGEMENT COULD BE ‘STRONG MODEL’

 

The system used by local government in Wales to engage people in public services could be a strong model for the rest of the United Kingdom, according to the New Local Government Network. In a new pamphlet it argues that the Welsh ‘bottom up’ approach restricts the level of ‘choice-based’ services and instead engages directly with citizens at every stage of service design and delivery.

NEW REPORT QUESTIONS PARTICIPATION IN DECISION MAKING

 

A report released today questions whether people and organisations are really participating in decision making about their communities. The new booklet, “Localism and local governance”, has been produced by the Economic and Social Research Council. It says those who used to be excluded from the process are being invited to participate but it queries how open new mechanisms actually are.
