CONCERN THAT ROAD PRICING MAY BE SEEN AS A STEALTH TAX

 

The Local Government Association has expressed concerns about the Draft Transport Bill and the report from the House of Commons Transport Committee. There is a risk that road pricing may be seen as a stealth tax with major decisions taken in Whitehall.

MPs SUPPORT INVESTMENT BANK FOR THIRD SECTOR

 

Unclaimed assets in banks and building societies should be used to fund a Social Investment Bank to support third sector organisations. The Treasury Select Committee in its report believes that using the assets in this way would give the greatest benefit to society.

DEPLOYMENT AND IMPACT OF SUPPORT STAFF IN SCHOOLS

This report sets out the findings from the Second National Questionnaire Survey of Schools, Support Staff and Teachers following National Agreement: ‘Raising Standards and Tackling Workload’ introduced in 2003. A key element of the Agreement was tackling teacher workload, including a concerted attack on unnecessary paperwork and bureaucracy, and review of support staff roles.Following the introduction of the Agreement there were large increases in Higher Level Teaching Assistants, ICT Support Staff, Cover Supervisors, Catering staff, Data Manager/ Analyst, Examination Officers, and Creative Arts Specialists.
