Those who do not meet the standard idea of a heterosexual, white male are less well represented higher up the career ladder because they come up against the ‘glass cliff’. Research by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development shows that there are hidden factors which influence the career progress of people because of their age, disability, religion, ethnicity, parental status as well as their sex.
The environment comes fourth in a list of issues people feel the government should be dealing with according to a survey commissioned by the Department for the Environment. It also came fourth in the 2001 survey, but this year fewer people rate the environment as a top issue for government.
The top issue is crime which has moved up from 30 to 49 percent.

People are required to be more flexible, mobile and work more quickly and effectively with a new group of colleagues. It is no longer about sustaining and developing team identity over a number of years.
