HISTORIC DOCUMENTS ON SHORTLIST FOR NEW LIFE ON LINE
Two local authorities - Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council and the City of London - have each had two historic manuscripts shortlisted in a competition that will see them given new life by being made available online. The competition is being run by the British Library, in collaboration with the Society of Chief Librarians and Microsoft, to make valuable and fragile texts available digitally.
SOUTHAMPTON SIGNS PARTNERSHIP WITH CAPITA
Southampton City Council has signed a deal with Capita, which the authority says will bring increased investment and help to modernise its key services. Hundreds of council staff will switch to working for the company and local people are likely to see changes quickly with an immediate revamp planned for Gateway, the council’s one stop shop for enquiries.

Several studies suggest that social mobility may have declined in the UK and this has strengthened strategic and political concern with the issue.
