The author examines the argument that the rise in workless households is more about social change than economics and is in effect an indirect exchange of jobs. He explores the re-distribution of jobs between men and women and the role that social disadvantage plays.

Young people are turning to the Internet and social networking sites for careers advice because few of them get support in their career development while they are in full time education. Research published today shows that only one in ten young workers said they had received careers advice and almost all of those that did get it found it confusing and unhelpful.

PARENTS BACK VOCATIONAL TEACHING IN SCHOOLS BUT SHOW ‘DOUBLE STANDARDS’

Research released today shows widespread support among parents for changes to the school curriculum to include compulsory vocational learning. The study has been conducted by the educational foundation Edge, using its Parents’ Panel, a unique survey of more than 5,000 parents across the UK.
