This book is the result of a collaborative publishing venture between the national charity Counsel and Care and the UK’s ‘self-help’ legal publisher, Lawpack Publishing. It aims to provide individuals, families and communities with help, guidance and assistance in caring for elderly loved loves.Whilst medical advances mean that people are living longer and enjoying a healthier life style, the increasing life expectancy does have its downsides. Today, there are more than 700,000 people with dementia and many older people now live in residential care homes. There are also more than a million older people living alone with virtually no contact with family, friends or neighbours.
People in Wales are being urged to sign up for a multi-million pound project, which will shape healthcare for future generations across Britain. Biobank Cymru is the first scheme of its kind anywhere in the world and will provide a long-term snapshot of the health of those who sign up.

The Public Appointments Commissioner says more work still needs to be done to widen the pool of applicants for posts on public bodies. Janet Gaymer said there had been encouraging progress in some areas but in her annual report she added that there were still statistics which disappointed her.
