CALL FOR RADICAL ACTION TO CLOSE ‘CARE FUNDING GAP’

Hundreds of thousands of older disabled people have to rely on family members or draw on their life savings to provide the care they need, according to a national charity which is today calling for a radical new framework to meet what it calls a ‘care funding gap’. Counsel and Care says informal and private arrangements are plugging a funding gap of 25,000 pounds for every disabled person over the age of 65 in Britain.

EMPLOYERS SAY LAWYERS ARE HAMPERING COUNCILS’ ON EQUAL PAY

No-win-no-fee lawyers have been accused of hampering councils’ efforts to achieve equal pay rates within their workforces. New research from the Local Government Employers shows that half of authorities have completed equal pay reviews, but that the ability of councils to do so is being hindered.

GREEN ICT? CURRENT RESEARCH INTO THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF ICT

This report from the Society of IT Management describes ICT as having poor ‘green’ credentials. It currently accounts for some 2% of global CO2 emissions, which is the same amount as that of the airline industry. However, ICT also has significant potential to reduce its own environmental impact from equipment manufacture and use of electricity, as well as helping organisations become greener through adoption of practices like flexible working and increased efficiencies in business processes.
