RECYCLING GOES UP – WASTE GOES DOWN

Households and councils are continuing to respond to calls to recycle more and cut the amount of waste that is sent to landfill sites. The latest municipal waste statistics from Defra show that recycled household waste has risen to 33.9 per cent and landfill waste has gone down from 16.9 to 15.8m tones. Household waste has also gone down from 25.8m to 25.6m tones.

ALMOST HALF OF SICK ABSENCE NOT GENUINE CLAIMS SURVEY

Top executives across the UK believe that half of the lost working days due to sickness are not genuine. The survey by MidlandHR and FirstCare, also found that some staff still look on a paid sick leave allowance as an extension of their annual holiday entitlement.

ANOTHER FINE MESS?

Motorist can no longer be sure that they have evaded a parking fine when they drive away without a ticket on the windscreen. The ticket may arrive by post. Changes to parking regulations allow evidence from CCTV cameras to be accepted, without any human intervention. The effect of this change is that councils have to operate a parallel enforcement process that gets the ticket to the motorist. The author looks at the problems this causes.
