CALL CENTRE WILL DEAL WITH REFERENDUM QUESTIONS

A special call centre has been set up for people in Greater Manchester who want to know more about a referendum to be held later this year on the future of transport in the area. The poll is due to take place across Greater Manchester in early December on the Transport Innovation proposals.
The new call centre will be open from nine to five on weekdays initially but will then be available on Saturdays nearer to the date of the deadline for voting.

COUNCIL SETS OUT SEVEN SINS OF JARGON

Staff at the London Borough of Harrow have been given new guidance on using plain English and avoiding jargon when dealing with inquiries from local people. A review of language used by the authority has so far identified ‘seven sins of jargon’ and come up with plain English alternatives in each case.
The council has unveiled a new service standard for the way it deals with phone calls, emails and visits from the public.
