REMINDER OF LOW CARBON BUILDINGS GRANT DEADLINE

Schools, hospitals and charity organisations have been given a New Year reminder that they have only until June to apply for grants through the Low Carbon Buildings Programme. The money can be used to install green energy generating equipment like solar panels, wind turbines or biomass boilers. Homeowners have an additional 12 months to take advantage of the scheme.

COUNCIL SEES BIG RISE IN CALLS TO DEBT ADVICE SERVICE

A city council has recorded a steep rise in the number of people using its debt advice service. Manchester City Council says that in the opening days of the New Year many people are facing the reality of having overspent on credit and debit cards and that this and the impact of the credit crunch means they are facing a concerning and difficult time.

OUTSOURCING TREND IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT SET TO GROW

More local authorities will outsource business processes and ICT in the next five years. This is a key finding from a report by Kable, a provider of public sector research.

Local government is the largest area of public sector ICT spend in the UK. It is estimated that the spend will reach 3.7b pounds in 2008/09, representing 22 per cent of all public sector ICT spend. Over the next five years spending is predicted to grow at 2.8 per cent to reach some 4.3b pounds by 2013/14.
