COUNCILS IN SUCCESSFUL PILOT OF ONLINE MARKETPLACE

Five local councils have been taking part in the pilot of a web-based marketplace designed to help people manage their individual budgets online. The system is now close to being rolled out across the country and now In Control, the organisation behind the Shop4Support trial will work with local authorities to adapt the system to their specific needs.

CALL FOR TAXPAYERS’ MONEY TO HELP COUNCIL TENANTS MOVE ON

A senior local government figure has called for more taxpayers’ money to be used to help council tenants buy or rent private homes so social housing can be made available for victims of the credit crunch. Councillor Paul Bettison, who chairs the Local Government Association’s Environment Board, said vital funding was stuck in the system.
