COUNCIL TAX RISES REVISED AS RECESSION BITES

Town halls are revising down this year’s council tax rises to help hard-pressed residents. In January the Local Government Association estimated a 3.5 per cent rise, but it has now revised the figure to 3.0 per cent. This is the lowest rise in over a decade.

CAMPAIGN TO CUT USE OF ANTIBIOTICS

The Department of Health has launched a ‘no prescription pad’ campaign to cut the use of antibiotics which don’t work on colds, most coughs or sore throats.

The campaign will run through March and April and adverts will be appearing in newspapers and magazines. Leaflets and posters will also be displayed in GP practices and pharmacies throughout the country.
