This survey of staff attitudes published by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development shows a rise in job satisfaction. It is suggested that employees grateful to have a job at all are less likely to grumble, and more likely to see scorched earth rather than greener grass on the other side of the fence.

Public services must innovate if they are to meet expectations and the warning of budget cuts in the future have served to place greater emphasis on doing things differently. The author presents a view of innovation from the local government perspective. She describes how innovation has been fostered and calls for a public service wide initiative to change the culture away from risk aversion and towards creativity.
Some councils give high levels of customer service, but others do not. Communities Minister Shahid Malik has called on all councils to make best practice in local government the standard practice. He wants councils to get it right first time to ensure the public receive the modern service they expect.

If you are an extrovert you are probably stimulated by the interpersonal interactions that build these relationships. However if you are an introvert who is more quiet in temperament, you may feel excluded, overlooked, or misunderstood.
London councils have warned that funding arrangements for caring for the elderly are not adequate and that people do not understand how social care works, nor are they planning for their own future. The warnings come with the publication of findings from a survey of people with relatives receiving social care.

The impact of the UK budget deficit, which will trigger severe cuts in public service spending, is becoming clearer with a prediction that 350,000 public service jobs could be cut. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development has produced this estimate of cuts based on previous downturns in the economy.
