COUNCIL TREASURY MANAGEMENT ADVISERS ‘UNREGULATED’ SAY MPs

The Financial Services Authority failed to regulate local authority treasury management advisers according to a group of MPs who have looked into the potential loss of council investments in the Icelandic banks collapse. Members of the Commons Communities and Local Government Committee are also unhappy at the FSA’s failure to act on their concerns.

CODE AIMS TO IMPROVE MANAGEMENT OF TRANSPORT ASSETS

GOVERNMENT TOLD PROBATION SERVICE CUTS WILL MEAN MORE CRIME

Trainee Probation Officers will meet the Justice Secretary today to challenge government cuts to the service which, it is claimed, could mean the loss of frontline staff and an increase in crime. The eight trainees will be representing more than 450 newly qualified officers and will tell Jack Straw about the impact on them and the reasons why the service urgently needs more resources.

In a report, the New Local Government Network says inadequate investment in public infrastructure will hit road and rail projects, housing and new school buildings as well as hampering the modernisation of public services.
