REBRANDING OF WHITEHALL DEPARTMENT ‘BACKWARD STEP’ FOR CHILDREN

A children’s charity is warning that the rebranding of the Department for Children Schools and Families signalled a backward step in support for prevention and early intervention in cases of child neglect and abuse. Railway Children, which works with runaways, is calling on the government to support innovative and specially tailored services for children with complex needs.

CALL FOR CHIEF EXECUTIVES TO TAKE IT DISPOSAL MORE SERIOUSLY

Local authority chief executives and other senior figures in the public and private sectors are being asked to take more seriously the disposal of their IT equipment. After a television documentary showed children in Ghana risking their lives to get scrap from dumped computers, Remploy e-cycle is urging senior decision-makers to ensure they know exactly where their old computer equipment is being sent.

EMPOWERED COMMUNITIES – SURVEY REPORT

This report from Communities and Local Government present findings from a survey of attitudes across policy areas.

The survey found variations in levels of trust across different areas compared to 2005. Trust in parliament was down from 37 to 34 per cent. Trust was highest amongst 16 to 24 year olds, 47 per cent, with all other groups showing lower levels of trust in parliament ranging of between 27 and 40 per cent.
