CONCILS CHALLENGED TO BE SMARTER WITH CARE SPENDING

Councils and the Government are being challenged to use funding for social care more smartly so they deliver better services for the country’s aging population. Counsel and Care believes this approach could release up to three billion pounds to be redirected towards better care for older people and support for those looking after them.

SCHOOLS URGED TO CUT COST OF REGULATION SPORTS KIT

Council leaders want schools to ease their rules on pupils’ sports kit to help parents save money. They want governors and heads to relax restrictions on the clothing they expect children to wear for sports lessons after new figures put the average cost of games kit for a secondary school student at almost £130.

Family educators and parenting consultants have found there is little to no understanding by most parents of attachment theory: that every child is born with a drive to form a close emotional relationship with the mother and father that could result in devastating effects if those needs are not met. They have found that too much advice is based on opinion, not sound research, which has often proven harmful to the child and the parent-child relationship.
