Cloud computing, which allows oganisations to share resources, software and applications, will bring radical change to public sector ICT services. Using the cloud will reduce costs and risks and bring scalability, and resilience. For the future, public bodies will be able to operate without owning a single server or having a share in a data centre. This prediction comes from the Society of IT Management.
The rise in child poverty in the decade leading up to 1999 has, in part, been attributed to the increase in workless lone parent households. Research has consistently pointed at parental worklessness as a key factor increasing the risk of poverty, particularly for children of lone parents. This paper presents findings from a study of the issues for all mothers in combining paid work and parenting.
This report from ResPublica argues that the Big Society will fail unless urgent action is taken to better support civil society in our public services. The report says that the development of an expanded civil society is being hampered by burdensome bureaucracy and over complicated commissioning processes.
The Behavioural Insights Team in the Cabinet Office has published ways in which it believes local authorities, charities, government and private sector organisations can develop responses that encourage healthier behaviours. The team draws on insights from behavioural science and behavioural economics which encourage behavioural change without resorting to legislation or costly programmes. It is better known as the nudge, nudge approach.
