PLAN TO GIVE COMMUNITIES OWNERSHIP OF C0UNCIL HOMES

The ownership of council homes across England would transfer to the community for the first time if proposals published in a new report are accepted by the Government.

Community and council ownership on a large-scale is one of three options for the future of council housing considered in a report released by the National Federation of Arms Length Management Organisations – ALMOs . The new models aim to provide greater opportunities for tenant involvement in the running of council housing and to enable ALMOs to leverage off-balance sheet, private finance for the first time.

BOGUS EFFICIENCY SAVINGS CLAIM EXPOSED BY THE GUARDIAN

The Guardian challenged the basis of the claim and found that possible savings in a limited area of procurement had been extrapolated without any supporting data.

PRESSURES ON SOCIAL WORKERS BUILDING UP

Almost 40 per cent of social workers say their caseload is unmanageable according to a survey by the recruitment agency Liquid Personnel.

The survey found that 39 per cent of social workers find their current caseload unmanageable and 69 per cent say it has increased in the past 12 months. The figures come from a survey of almost 600 social work practitioners.
