Reviews the literature regarding BPR implementation, setting out five areas for discussion: change management; management competency and support; organizational structure; project planning and management; information technology infrastructure. Discusses each of these, giving several identified success and failure factors. Expands that by listing approximately 100 problems, under 21 headings, found in BPR projects, and cites the relevant authors. Reports that effective communications, cross-functional teams, leadership, information systems and BPR programme management are seen as vital for success by many in the literature. Concludes by depicting the main 32 success factors and 22 failure factors regarding BPR implementation for use as a checklist. Comments: Very useful for those about to embark on BPR, in the throes of it, or who just want to find out more about the topic.
