A survey of HR professionals’ attitudes towards ex-offenders shows that over two thirds of those who have employed ex-offenders report that it has been a positive experience, only 6% say that it has been negative. HR professionals also display a general willingness to employ people with a criminal record (40%), although only 28% have any experience of employing ex-offenders. This new evidence is a challenge to the stereotypical responses and resistance of employers. Many often adopt blanket exclusion policies as they are frightened to take what they see as a high risk. The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development who conducted the survey, has joined with People Management magazine in a joint awareness campaign to enable the profession to influence change. The Survey is published by The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development http://www.cipd.co.uk
