This report from the Home Office looks at the local management of community safety involving the police working with other statutory agencies and with members of the community. Public concerns and fears about crime persist even though levels of crime have fallen. The report provides evidence of what can be done to provide greater reassurance about public safety. It describes how working together can make a difference in public engagement, safety and security, satisfaction with and confidence in the policing provided. It also sets out a model of effective partnership which will be of value to the development of both the National Reassurance Policing Programme being undertaken by eight police forces and, more widely, local police and their partners engaged in neighbourhood policing. The report is available at: http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/rds/pdfs04/hors288.pdf
