A survey by the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy reveals that nearly 4 in 10 councils believe efficiency savings have enabled them to limit increases in council tax bills. The findings also show that the vast majority of councils feel that the savings realised have not had a detrimental effect on local services. The research also reveals that only a quarter of councils are in favour of local government reorganisation for their authority.
The survey results are published in the latest edition of Figure It Out, the bi-annual statistical research bulletin from CIPFA’s commercial services division. The bulletin also features an overview of the latest performance trends in the health service and a case study of how one council used environmental data for sustainable development.
