This programme is now available to view on egovtv.tv, the online television channel for public service modernisation. It presents a case study of the London Borough of Waltham Forest’s strategy of flexible working and accommodation rationalisation, that is delivering annual savings of over 11 million pounds. In the last three years the council has improved service and value to the citizens by improving staff productivity and working conditions and consolidating the Councils’ property portfolio.
The Accommodation and Alternative Ways of Working strategy was enabled by a new IT infrastructure from Dell, which has delivered considerable savings and efficiency gains across the council as more than 400 members of staff can now work flexibly, reducing fixed desk occupancy by 30 per cent. IT costs too have been cut by 1.1 million pounds including a 90 per cent reduction in desktop PC deployment costs through a new Dell managed services contract.
The Council is now seeking to double its achievements by reducing permanent desk occupancy by 60 per cent, giving more staff the opportunity to work from home, from other offices and out in the field.
GovTV is a dedicated web-cast television channel for governors of public bodies, council members and senior executives across all public sector organisations and is available free to an unlimited audience at anytime, at any location via the internet.
