It describes how Staffordshire County Council are supporting older people, some of whom have dementia, to live independently in their own home with a new activity monitoring system from Just Checking.

The system provides assurance to concerned families that their relative is functioning at home and that there is effective collaboration between multi-disciplinary professionals involved in the person’s care.

The technology, made up of small wireless movement sensors installed in a person’s home, records daily lifestyle patterns which effectively gives a person a ‘voice’ in the assessment and planning of their care.

A Department of Health assessment of the initiative has shown that keeping a person at home with the system rather than moving them into residential care, results in a saving of 1200 pounds.
