This programme is now available to view on egovtv.tv, the online television channel for public service modernisation. It describes how Staffordshire County Council are supporting older people, some of whom have dementia, to live independently in their own home with a new activity monitoring system from Just Checking.

The system provides assurance to concerned families that their relative is functioning at home and that there is effective collaboration between multi-disciplinary professionals involved in the person’s care.

The technology, made up of small wireless movement sensors installed in a person’s home, records daily lifestyle patterns which effectively gives a person a ‘voice’ in the assessment and planning of their care.

A Department of Health assessment of the initiative has shown that keeping a person at home with the system rather than moving them into residential care, results in a saving of 1200 pounds.

GovTV is a dedicated web-cast television channel for governors of public bodies, council members and senior executives across all public sector organisations and is available free to an unlimited audience at anytime, at any location via the internet.
