This pack supports out-of-school-hours learning for children in care. It is designed to assist local authorities, working in partnership with others, in making out of school learning an integral part of raising the achievement of looked-after children, and of good corporate parenting. It is based on the collective experience of the pilot authorities of the Taking Part project which was developed to help those working within children’s services. The Taking Part pack contains a guide and a DVD. A key feature is the emphasis placed on the opportunities provided for social workers to move away from the statutory responsibilities and engage with children and young people in finding out what they’d like to do in terms of leisure activities, things they’d want to do in the future, and to problem-solve what might get in the way with the things they’d like to do.’
