By James Sinclair TaylorThe voluntary and community sector is growing at a rapid rate and it is essential that trustees and committee members have the awareness, knowledge and confidence to identify and manage the risks associated with their important role. The perceived fear of personal liabilities deters some people from becoming trustees and it is an issue that concerns existing trustees.
This new guidance from the Governance Hub, a partnership of eight organisations that provide support to the voluntary and community sector, seeks to dispel many of the misconceptions associated with the risks of trusteeship.
The guide covers issues such as personal liability, trustee liabilities, what to do when concerned about liabilities and the reality of committing to be collectively responsible for the legal and financial management of the organisation.
