A series of directories listing detailed information on health initiatives for black and minority ethnic groups has been launched by the Health Department. They are part of the Government’s programme to ensure the health needs of the diverse ethnic minority population are recognised and met.

Health Minister Tessa Jowell said: “The directories provide examples of good practice and evidence about local projects which both health services and communities can adapt and tailor to meet their own specific needs.”

Health Authorities, Trusts, charities and voluntary organisations which have been funded to undertake projects addressing the cultural and linguistic needs of ethnic minority communities are all featured, in a format that aims to be as accessible as possible.

Copies of the Directory of Ethnic Minority Initiatives are available from the Department of Health Distribution Centre, PO Box 410, Wetherby, West Yorkshire LS 23 7LN.
