The DETR has published a handy guide to environment information and to people’s attitude to environmental matters. The Environment in Your Pocket is available free of charge by phoning the DETR Free Literature Centre (0870-1226 236) and quoting Ref 98EP0190.

Among the information packed inside are statistics on population, climate change, emissions, air quality, rainfall and water quality.

It also includes up to date information on people’s attitude to the environment. It concludes that most people’s environmental concerns are focussed on pollution issues. They are less worried about local environmental issues such as noise.

Also revealed is a high level of optimism, with most people thinking “a lot could be done” about most issues.
